Tom Szaky: "Durable packaging outwins disposable containers in pricing"
Recycling is symptom control, says Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of TerraCycle. With his platform Loop, he wants to address the waste problem at its root. In a video interview with the GDI, Szaky talks about his vision.
“I think we are living in a very exciting time”, says Tom Szaky, founder and CEO of TerraCycle. We have access to an infinite number of things our parents and grandparents could not even have dreamed of. But the consequences of this lifestyle for the environment are fatal - whether microplastic in the ocean or land contaminated by heavy metals.
New approaches are needed to solve the garbage problem of affluent society - ideas that go beyond recycling, says Szaky, who has been working on potential solutions for more than 17 years. With his company TerraCycle, he launched the platform Loop in 2019. It offers companies of all sizes the opportunity to sell their products in reusable packaging.
